modem speedtouch usb trava Mdv 2009.0

Ontem fui tentar instalar um Mandriva 2009.0 One em um computador e ele travava enquanto estivesse o modem speedtouch usb conectado. Só consegui instalar após desconectar.

Depois de instalado, tentei configurar e novamente o CCM travava e eu tinha que reiniciar a sessão.
Sei que o Mandriva 2009 tem o pacote certo pra esse modem mas acho que tem algum bug com a USB.

Este Mandriva está instalado com dual boot com o win onde este modem está funcionando sem problema.

The system stays frozen, but when you disconnect the USB modem to the PC and try again to boot the system boots normally but when I try to connect the modem once again loaded the system, the system is re-freeze

Alguém tem alguma dica? Será que tenho que trocar de modem?

Meu modem é SpeedTouch e também tive alguns problemas quando começei a usar linux. No começo pelo que me lembro tive que entrar nas configurações do modem e rotear para que tudo ficasse normal.
